Bakhtiyarpur Kishan Producer Company Limited (BKPCL) is a farmer producer company formed by Indian farmers located in Bakhtiyarpur block of Patna district in the state of Bihar. 1045 farmers are its members and its share-holders who are spread in 16 villages of Bakhtiyarpur block. Members are aggregated in smaller groups (15-20 members per group), called Farmer Interest Group (FIG), and these FIGs are federated into Bakhtiyarpur Kishan Producer Company (BKPCL).
The constitution (MOA & AOA) of the producer company has been decided by the farmer members and is registered as a Farmer Producer Company under section 581C(5) of the Part IX-A of the Companies Act 1956 of Govt. of India.
To look after the day to day operations of the BKPCL, it is proposed to form various committees -marketing, finance, and operational committee, comprising of BKPCL Board members and other elected representative member farmers.
BKPCL member farmers in the region generally cultivate seasonal vegetables - with main vegetables being Potato, Tomato, Gourds, Onion, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brinjal, Green Chilli, Green Pea, Pumpkin and Pointed Gourd in rabi season; Okra, Brinjal, Pointed Gourd, Bodi and Cucumber in kharif and Onion, Tomato, Cucumber, Brinjal, Pumpkin and Pointed Gourd in zaid season. Apart from these the farmers also cultivate field crops and fodder for home-consumption.
The main vegetable mandi near the BKPCL cluster are Patna (49 km from BKPCL). The cluster is very well connected to the markets - both local and distant, with National Highway 31 and Delhi-Howarah main railway line. The accessibility to our production area is very good with most villages connected to each other with pakka roads.
